Melody Hathaway is sent to a boarding school in Brighton when she turns fourteen. Once she's there she experiences things like any other girl her age: she gets her first kiss, first boyfriend and has a good group of friends.
However, she doesn't know how to deal with all of the emotions she can get to feel, so she discovers a rather unhealthy coping mechanism.
On the other hand, the school counselor- who seems to be someone mentally okay- discovers a side of himself he hadn't seen before, infatuated by this foreign girl. They both develop an unusual- and wrong- relationship between them, until one decides to abruptly end everything.
