“So..I think we can have that talk now. If you still want to that is?” Jordan said as they sat at the breakfast table.
“Really? Okay then,” Lana said as she buttered her bagel.
"Look..I didn't mean to come across as too 'judgey' yesterday," he quoted with his fingers, "I was just concerned about you. I'm sorry."
"You were right..I was kind of spiraling out of control," she dropped her eyes in shame, "I need to take control of my life."
"Good-I'm glad.." He squeezed her hand, "I-uh-I’ll start off by answering a few questions you might have concerning the living arrangements when we get home, he poured her a glass of apple juice and placed it close to her plate, “you’re going to have to move in with me-since you’re now my wife it’s only logical.”
“Right,” Lana muttered. She took a huge gulp of her juice, “and I obviously don’t have a say in the matter?” She raised her eyebrow.
“Sweets, not to throw this in your face but you signed a contract and this was one of the pre-requisites. Besides where else would you go and stay?,” he reached for her hand.
“Since it’s your last year at college we will have to stay in Minnesota until you’re done, then we will be moving back to New York where you will assume your duties as my wife full time.”
“And what would those duties entail Mr Carter?” Lana challenged.
“Ryan has found a personal assistant and you will meet her when we get back. She will give you all the finer details,” he said and popped a piece of steak in his mouth.
“Do I really need a personal assistant Carter?” Lana asked in disbelief.
“Oh believe me-you need one sweets,” he laughed, “just wait and see.”
“I think I’m going to regret this,” Lana groaned.
“You get to be with me everyday-that’s a good thing right?” he brushed breadcrumbs off her cheek and smiled.
“That’s one thing we really need to discuss..” She frowned. “Us.”
“Do you really have to bring this up now?” Jordan threw his napkin on the table.
“Jordan I can’t keep on letting you toy with my feelings.” She pushed her plate away. “And it’s not fair for you to expect me to wait for you to come around. What if it never happens?”
“Lana, I’ve been trying-what more do you want from me?” He gripped his fork, trying to keep his anger at bay.
“I appreciate your efforts, I really do-but I can’t be the only one emotionally invested in this relationship. That’s if we can even call it that!” Lana blew up, “you’re probably just using me for sex!”
“Stop putting me in a corner okay?! I’ve already told you that I would try so if you’re not satisfied with that then it’s best we keep this arrangement strictly professional,” he said with animosity, “besides, I can get laid with or without your help and-I never heard you complaining when you where screaming my name and clawing my back,” he said callously.
“You know what? I don’t even know why I bother!” she furrowed her brows. “I have sacrificed so much for you-compromised myself-but you-” she threw up her hands in defeat. “If I hadn’t signed that contract I would have left right now.” she stood and looked at him with contempt
“Then you’re free to leave Lana. I’m not holding a gun to your head," he scoffed, "Just face it-you’re here because you want to,” Jordan stood up abruptly and brushed past her, signaling that the conversation was over.
“I leave you kids alone for two minutes and you’re at each others throats,” Jones chuckled as he drove them to the airport.
Lana and Jordan were sitting far apart in the back seat, staring out of the window. Jones tried to get them to talk but he was failing. It would be a long ride back to Minnesota.
“Okay, who’s going to go first?” Jones looked into the rear-view mirror, waiting for a response but got none.
“That’s how it’s going to be huh?” Silence. “Okay. Maybe some music then? ” Jones turned on the radio, “I think I have the perfect song-maybe you can do your karaoke thing?”
Jones whistled along to Hoobastank The Reason. Jordan flinched and Lana blinked back tears rapidly.
Jordan stole a glance at Lana just as she brushed a tear from her flushed cheek. His heart clenched and he reacted immediately. His arms encircled her and she pushed him away forcefully and went back to staring out of the window.
Jones had the song on repeat, probably trying to get the song lyrics to sink in but to no avail. Jordan didn’t try to reach out to Lana again after the rebuff. The car slowed to a stop and Lana shot out of the car, walking straight to the jet.
“You done did it this time JC,” Jones said as he shook his head.
“Whatever.” Jordan muttered and took the steps up to the plane.
Lana had already disappeared into one of the bedrooms, the door tightly shut. Jordan sat with Jones and they started discussing Preston.
“Our guys have found him. We’ve got him cornered and he knows it,” Jones reported.
“We will go there as soon as we land,” Jordan clenched his jaw.
“Do we let Amelia go or keep her under house arrest?” Jones asked.
