Fantastopia: The New Life (part 1)

Ahh, mornings

Man, I could not sleep at all last night, my thoughts kept me up with questions regarding my new double life. And by the time I was in the food court, I couldn’t stop yawning as I sat down at an empty table with my food. I seriously need to take a sleeping pill. But hey, life as a college student means that there are times when you can’t sleep, so at least I’m not alone.

I still had the ring in my backpack, I couldn’t risk wearing it in public. Now I’m just hoping no one will steal my backpack, although I doubt that will happen. The only things I have in my backpack are my basic class supplies, nothing worth stealing... well besides the ring of course.

“You look sleepy” a voice suddenly spoke to me when I looked up and nearly choked on my breakfast burrito when I saw who it was.

What the hell was she doing here? And why did she have to meet me while I was in the middle of eating? I haven’t even swallowed my burrito yet.

“Aria?” I muffled through my burrito that was still in my mouth.

Oh crap, I still haven’t swallowed it. I quickly swallowed the piece, perhaps a bit too quickly that it made my chest burn a little

“One moment,” I told her as I took a sip of my water to wash away any food I had in my teeth.

“I’m sorry,” she apologized with a guilty smile “I didn’t mean to bother you while you were eating.”

“No, it’s fine” I assured once I was ready to talk “I just didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Yeah well, I just wanted to check on you, plus it’s been a while since I’ve been in this world. May I sit?”

I motioned my hand to the empty seat in front of me as she took the seat. I couldn’t stop admiring the clothes she was wearing, she was dressed in modern clothes that consisted of skinny jeans that were tucked in some black ankle boots, a floral blouse with a brown fringe vest over it, some bracelets were stacked on her wrists, and she wore a maroon-colored knit beanie that I assumed was to hide her pointed ears. I gotta say, I liked her style, kind of a boho look especially with the braids in her hair.

“You look nice in those clothes” I commented with a smile.

“Oh, thanks” she smiled back “If I’m gonna blend in, I might as well do it in style.”

“Well, you’re really rocking that look.”

“It’s my go-to style in this place. I’ve got more back home.”

“How do you manage to get clothes like these? You don’t steal them, right?”

“Of course not,” she swore, “Most of us have some American money saved from whenever we would come here to this world. This outfit is actually from a few years ago, and it still fits me.”

“Well, it’s a good thing you’re blending in. Especially with that hat.”

“Yep,” she smirked while smoothing the side of her beanie that covered her ears “Still gotta keep the ears hidden.”

I chuckled when she added.

“So-” she spoke, “This is your college huh?”

“Yeah” I nodded as she gazed around at the students who were eating and socializing.

“It’s big” she commented, “You ever get lost?”

“First few days I did. But you get the hang of it.”

“Well, you gotta show me around someday. And also all around your town as well.”

“Perhaps” I shrugged “If I can find the time to do so, especially with my new double life.”

“Hey. Don’t worry about not getting any free time. There will be days when you don’t have to train and we’ll let you take the day off.”

“Yeah” she nodded “We don’t train our warriors till they pass out, we give them days off.”

“Oh?” I remarked amusedly, “Um, that’s great. Cause I will be needing some free time.”

“Well, now may be your only free time at the moment. When does your first class start?”

“In about 30 minutes.”

“What’s your class schedule today?”

“Well, I have two classes this morning, and then I have two more this afternoon.”

“Any chance you can come to Fantastopia between those times?”

“Um, I only have an hour and a haft before my afternoon classes. But I could try to come after.”

“That’ll be fine. Just try to come as soon as you can.”

“What exactly am I doing today?”

“Well,” she suddenly grinned “Today you begin your training.”

If I was still eating my burrito, I would have choked on it again.

“What?” my eyes widen.

“You won’t be using real weapons today, you’ll be using training weapons which are all made of wood. So don’t worry, you most likely won’t be killed today.”

“Somehow I don’t feel reassured.”

“You won’t” she promised, “I’ll make sure of it.”

“I still don’t feel reassured.”

She smirked at me, and boy did she look cute when she smirked.

“Just come on when you’re ready,” she told me, “You got the map I drew for you?”

“I did” I nodded “Hey uh, my roommate didn’t hit on you or anything, right?”

“No” she giggled.
