The next day I heard Levi bragging about his latest conquest. His friends looked at him like he was Christopher Columbus when he had just discovered uncharted territory. His friends had crowded around his bench in the school quad, during a free period.
I was sitting at the next table with my friends, Justin and Torren. We didn’t want to eavesdrop but it was unavoidable. They were so loud-it’s like they wanted the whole school to hear about the embarrassing incident. Well, not that he was ashamed of being caught, he was owning it. Proud of it. Wearing it like a crown.
“Dude, how could you jump her in your car? In the school parking lot?” His friend Brett cackled.
“She wanted junior to come out to play so I couldn’t help it, man!” Levi threw back his head and guffawed thunderously.
“And that’s when the Green-eyed Monster decided to pull up right next to you!” Bruce, another quarterback, roared until he almost fell off the seat.
“Just as she was coming undone!” Levi shoved his hands in his blonde hair and laughed.
“Obviously causing a chain reaction, huh??” Brett grinned.
“There was no way I was going to pull out man-”
“Or stop!” They all cried out in unison.
“Stopping was not an option-I was so close man...” His emerald l eyes widened, darkening to deeper green with a knowing gleam. “But I needed to get mine-if you know what I mean...” he winked and they cracked up.
“So did you? You know?” Brett gyrated his hips and began to gasp, rolling his eyes back and making sounds that would make a virgin blush.
“Of cos!” He stated with audacious brashness.
They all hooted and patted him on the back, while others ruffled his hair.
“Can you believe that guy?” I said in a low voice, as I jerked my head at their table.
“To be honest, I would have done the exact same thing bro,” Torren grinned.
“I would get a t-shirt printed just so everyone knows I hit that!” Justin high-fived Torren as they laughed.
“I’m going to class.” I picked up my bag from the table and slung it over my shoulder. “I’ll see guys later.” I walked to my Business Studies class and heard someone call after me.
“Hey Innocent,” Blue called out. “Wait up!” Her melodic voice reverberated through the corridors of Red Rock High, like sound waves, causing everyone to turn and stare.
I stopped and slowly turned around as I neared the lockers. My body was already breaking into a cold sweat and she wasn’t even close to me. I needed to get a grip. What was it about her that made me react like a hormonal teenager that had never been kissed? Scratch that...
“Hey Blue. You’re looking good, as always,” I’d meant the words to come out worldly and sophisticated, but instead, my voice was two octaves lower than normal and sounded constricted.
“Thanks for noticing Innocent,” her amused but piercing gaze did things to my insides. I desperately wished it didn’t.
“It’s a bit difficult not to.” I drank in her outfit appreciatively and smiled.
She was dressed in a short black skater skirt that showed ample thigh and her long curvy legs. A tight white sweater, her signature black leather jacket, and cute ankle boots.
“I’ve got a favor to ask...” She bit her lip and clutched her books tightly against her chest. The intensity in her expression said Mrs. Bell had probably spoken to her.
“Is this about the tutoring thing?"
“So Bells already explained to you what’s at stake right..?” First, she shifted to one foot, and then shifted her weight to the other.
“Yeah,” I admitted. “She gave me a very detailed report and even resorted to underhanded tactics.”
“I’m sorry about that-she has a bit of a soft spot for me,” she replied with a sheepish grin.
“That’s hardly a reason for her to resort to emotional blackmail,” I responded with a disapproving grunt.
“I’ll have to talk to her about that,” she placed her hand on my shoulder. “I apologize for her behavior.”
“So how can I help you?” I prompted.
“Do you think you’d be able to tutor me?” Her forehead was all puckered, and her red mouth set in a pout. “Pretty please, with a cherry on top?” she pleaded. “I’ll be indebted to you forever. I can do anything for you in return-just ask.“She clasped her hands together and implored me with her gorgeous sea-blue orbs.
It was kind of fun watching her squirm.
“Why me?” I questioned. “You can ask anyone-”
“I don’t want them knowing my weaknesses. They will obviously use it against me one way or another,” she mused, making a mental calculation. “If you agree to this I can be your date for homecoming or the Spring Dance?”
“I wasn’t planning on going-” I started.
“Then allow me to change your mind-we could have a blast-”
“What about Levi?”
“Screw-don’t worry about him,” she said, aggravated.
“I don’t know about this Blue-”
“Please Corbyn? I have a lot riding on this. You know that!” she solicited.
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. This was a bad idea but I heard myself agreeing to give her extra lessons “Oka-” Before I could finish my sentence she had thrown her arms around my neck. Her sweet fragrance engulfed me and tantalized all my five senses.
