Goldie and her friends had enjoyed a peaceful few days since their encounter with the cat-pirate. The teremok was bustling with activity, as they all went about their daily chores and spent time together. Henrietta had been teaching them how to make cheese, which had turned out to be a lot harder than it looked. Boris had been practicing his acrobatics, and had even managed to jump from one branch to another without falling. And Goldie had been exploring the forest, looking for new things to see and do.
But one night, everything changed. A great storm rolled in, with thunder rumbling across the sky and rain pouring down in sheets. Goldie huddled in her little bed, her heart racing as the wind howled through the trees.
Outside, she could hear the other animals calling out to each other, trying to stay safe in the storm. She felt a pang of worry for them, and wondered if they needed her help. But she was just a little hamster, and she didn't know what she could do.
As the storm raged on, Goldie's fear turned to boredom. She couldn't sleep, and there was nothing to do except listen to the rain and wait for the storm to pass.
But then she heard something else, something that made her heart skip a beat. It was a faint cry for help, coming from somewhere outside.
Without thinking, Goldie leapt out of her bed and scurried to the door. She pushed it open and peered out into the storm, her little cap flapping in the wind.
At first, she couldn't see anything through the rain and darkness. But then she heard the cry again, louder this time, coming from somewhere to the left of the teremok.
She didn't hesitate. She ran towards the sound, her little legs pumping as fast as they could go. The rain soaked her fur, and the wind threatened to knock her over, but she kept going.
Finally, she saw a flash of movement in the darkness. It was a small bird, caught in a tree branch and unable to fly away. Goldie could see the fear in its eyes, and knew she had to help.
She climbed up the tree, her little claws digging into the bark. It was hard work, and she had to stop several times to catch her breath, but she didn't give up.
Finally, she reached the bird, and with all her strength, she managed to pry it loose from the branch. She held onto it tightly, her heart pounding with excitement and fear.
As she made her way back to the teremok, the storm began to subside. The rain slowed to a drizzle, and the wind died down. Goldie felt a sense of relief wash over her, and a sense of pride too. She had done something brave, something that had helped another creature in need.
As she lay down in her little bed, tired but happy, she knew that she had learned another valuable lesson. No matter how small you are, or how scared, you can always find a way to help others. And that, she thought, was the greatest treasure of all.
